Family Promise Metrowest and St. Mark’s

Family Promise Metrowest (FPM) is an organization, located in Natick, whose mission is to transform the lives of families with children that are facing homelessness by mobilizing a diverse community to provide shelter, education, and comprehensive support.  The families are Massachusetts residents with priority given to families from the Metrowest region.  You can learn more about FPM at: Family Promise Metrowest.

In 2023, St. Mark’s recommitted to be a Lead Congregation (one of seventeen congregations in the area network) fulfilling key support roles for the Family Promise Metrowest shelter, which included meal preparation, food shopping and hosting evening dinner for the families living in the shelter.

The tentative dates for 2024 are January 29- Feb 1, July 15-18, and September 16-19.    In addition, many parishioners joined the annual Walk to End Homelessness fundraiser.  FPM was also the recipient of the Open Plate offering in April.

This commitment to FPM is led by the Men’s Group but all parishioners are encouraged to participate in this outreach opportunity.

While providing support at the shelter is our primary means of support to FPM, individuals (or groups of individuals) are invited to volunteer in other capacities which can be found on the FPM website.

To be a FPM volunteer, there are two (2) simple steps to get you started.  We ask that interested parishioners please complete these steps as soon as possible so there are no delays later.

  1. Click on the Registration Link to begin. Some information is required, other voluntary.  When completing this registration, please scroll down to the Volunteer Group and click on St Marks Episcopal Church Southborough.
  2. Please complete the required FPM Orientation. This is a slide-based on-line orientation that may take up to an hour (depending on how many of the embedded videos you watch).  At the end of the slides there is a brief quiz which is used as an indicator that you have completed the orientation.

In addition to adult volunteers, FPM welcomes teen helpers at the shelter.  This can be during the week that St. Mark’s is providing assistance or whenever it works for the teen.  Teens register to be volunteers in the same manner as adult volunteers above.

For questions or support in registering, please contact John Brackett.
